clutch disc variations ?

Correct. It was slipping though. Rear main was pouring like a fountain, so soaked the inside of the flywheel housing and then possibly the friction disc. Or, the pressure plate springs weakened up. Either way, free for the taking if anybody wants it. Just pay shipping, or it gets screwed to the garage wall...carnage department.

Yea, the burnt remains of the clutch material was all over the inside of the bellhousing, lots of pics in my deuce build thread (link in the signature). Was being towed down a 12% grade when the motor locked up. Sacrificed the clutch to keep my speed down.
