**** Note there will be three threads on this*******
Our local military vehicle group will not be able to do the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 veterans appreciation ceremony this year. I am kicking around the idea here on facilitating having the Steel Soldiers fill in the void.
This event is at the Charlotte North Carolina motor Speedway Sunday, May 25, the day before Memorial Day. The vehicles are staged just on the other side of the wall at pit row. We take a ceremonial lap with all our regalia during a veterans appreciation ceremony just before the race. After the ceremonial lap we set up again behind the pit wall for static display. We are welcome to stay and watch the race from that position (B.T.W. A M944 makes an excellence observation deck!!!) Or we can leave at any time thanks to a tunnel under the racetrack.
This could be subject to cancellation at any time. There is a restriction of 15 vehicles.. The vehicles don't necessarily need to be museum quality. But should be somewhat historically accurate. They cannot leak in any way. The race track is very anal about this. After initial vetting more likely there will be a lottery subdivided by vehicle type. There could be alternate vehicles staged and ready should a primary don't make the trip.
We probably will be looking for a place to stage and bivouac the night before and the night of the race, hopefully on-site at the racetrack. Pretty much all the campgrounds in the area have already been reserved.
Participation will be wholly at your expense and possibly sharing any expenses like porta potty, police escort, banners, bivouac area gratuity, etc.
It is critical that this is a "Set and Forget" situation with the race track ....PLEASE Do not contact the speed way in any way regarding this. They tell us what time and where to show up and we handle the rest. There is an internal focal person that will handle all communications with the racetrack (not me).
We would also be looking for volunteers in such areas as convoy command, marshaling, communications, security (internal and external), medic, procurement or whatever.
Attached is a link to my sky Drive showing some pictures of last year's race.

for some reason there a lot of pictures of a M944!
Please post if you are interested in the business thread with a picture and your vehicle type with in five days. Actual time is short. We need to know if we are going to attend and with what kinds of vehicles.
This will be our third year doing this. This and following post reflect our experiences. It will be an opportunity of a lifetime. If done right it could become an annual affair!
Please post on the business thread if you are interested with a vehicle picture type.
More detail posting to follow
