Personally I have not seen any military wheels that are aluminum. That does not say they will not fit and as far as super singles, there seem to be a lot of 22.5" rims that may fit the 11.25 x 10 lug pattern of the five ton.

First off thank you Gringeltaube showing the technical drawings they have been a terrific help in planning my build. Your post should be in a sticky along with the technical manuals.

Second they do make Aluminum MRAP wheels. They are out there, just expensive, and will not work for my application.

I talked with Rock Monster that makes a CAST aluminum street legal double bead lock about having a custom HEMTT based wheel made out of aluminum. Due to the weight and intended use of my build I was directed to Hutchinson(the parent company). They informed me about a FORGED aluminum wheel they make for HEMTT that is rated for a 10,000 pound load.
Price wise let’s just say there is no way I can justify the massive expense to save 600+- lbs in rolling weight. But, they are out there driving around on "special applications".
That’s all I would rather disclose without risking anyone’s job.

I will gladly take the steel HEMTT rims and simply have custom hubs machined to match the bolt pattern while being under the expense of the aluminum rims.

Ok,so is the Hemtt wheel the one needed to run 16.00's on a 923A2 to avoid and rubbing or clearance issues and is it CTIS compatable?If not which one is needed and can someone post a pic of it?

Yes, 53 inch tires on Combat wheels will rub on a five ton. I had to add 1 1/2 bridge truck spacers to keep the tires from rubbing on my steering arm and hydraulic piston cover. you will need to change you wheel studs or do thimbles on the from if you run HEMMT's.
I know this is old but I am putting 16's on HEMTT rims on my M923. I's rather not change wheel studs up front and I hear the lug nut will be shy of full thread contact. Thimbles? Is that whats on the rear wheels of the M923A0?

Does anyone knows the weight of the standard HEMTT wheel (tire+rim)? And also is wheel balancing necessary to the HEMTT tires?

This thread has provided me with great info, but I have 1 question and this seems to be the thread to ask it in. I would like to know the thickness of the lug holes on the HEMTT rims ? the drawings in this thread show the thickness of the combat rims to be .4" and the HEMTT rims look to be about twice that thick but no dimension is provided. Could someone maybe get me an accurate measurement ?

Need some advice from those who have super singled their 5 ton.

I have a m923.

I plan on using goodyear mtv 395/85/20

I have just picked up 3 brand new tires mounted on brand new fmtv wheels. I also have a set of 8 of the newer 5 ton combat wheels.

I was going to break down the fmtv wheels and mount them on my combat wheels but started thinking why don't I just mount the fronts with the new fmtv wheel combos and mount 4 combat wheels on the back. Thinking of the saving my back some wear and tear, plus only having to mount 4 wheels instead of 7. The 3rd fmtv combo will become my spare. Also then thought I could sell a set of 4 brand new combat wheels and regain some $.

Thanks to gringeltaube for posting the diagrams.

From what I can tell, the measurements look almost identical. Will this work or I missing something?

Only negative I can see if I rotate the tires, I will have a mis matched set on the back but when mounted on the rear; I think they will look identical with dish in side by side?

Other question, The rims have brand new ctis valves and plumbing. Will fmtv standard valve stems have threads internally so I can add a shrader valve when I remove the ctis components?

I appreciate any help or insight you can share?

this thread seems to be as good as any concerning all the different wheels used by the Army for their trucks and which fit what vehicles

I am new to this subject just picking up a set of Michelin G-20 Pilote X tires mounted on wheels which to my best research are steel MRAP style. I have 14 bolts attaching the rim to the center which has an 11" center hole and a 10hole pattern for the lugs.

since I am advertising these for sale, it would be good to know which trucks they will fit? Will they work on M939 series? What about M39 and M813 series 5 tons? Obviously they will require adapters to work on an M35.

anyway, any info on this is appreciated and a good thing to post to the record

Two problems: 1) inadequate backspace... 2) $$$


To mount a wheel with the "large" 10-bolt pattern on a typical 5-ton hub would require some machining of the wheel center and then having a suitable adapter plate (plus hardware), like shown in the image below...

Yes, the tires could be mounted on correct wheels, of course.
But before running them at highway speeds check tire age on these G-20's. Most are way over 10 years old!

It is a flavor of mrap you have there.

The 5 ton bolt pattern is:
5Ton and Budd wheel pattern is 10 on 11.25" with a 8.75" pilot hole

I don't recall anyone making an adapter for MRAP to 5 ton. Check with peashooter and some of the threads he has as he makes adapters but is well versed on the rim specifics also.
