Conflicting Oil Capacity

So I serviced my 1990 m925a2 truck the other day. Tag on the dash says 27 quarts of oil. So I went ahead and did that and it was way overfilled. I checked a tm and found it says 20 quarts for the 8.3. So why did my tag on the dash call for 27 quarts? Anyone got any ideas why they are conflicting specs?

Apparently your dash tag is from an A0/A1 truck....

I had the same issue with my M813 with conflicting quantities in the literature. In the end the Lube Order was correct at 27 quarts for the NHC-250.

Well I drained it and measured what I drained. After 7 quarts all is good.
