Correct trailer for a M1009

This is not my trailer just a pic of a sankey trailer.This is the older version narrowtrack with no tailgate.The newer version widetrack has a tailgate.

the m101a2 is by far the best choice for a m1009.just remember to have a spare.i use two with mine.with some common sense they work great.this is a great trailer.

I pull my M101A2 with my Jeep Cherokee, tows like a dream.
for a M1009 I'd put a frame mounted receiver hitch on it.

As long as you don't use the M101a2 in battle, I don't think the bumper will be ripped off a m1009. I use mine all the time and I have had it loaded, but I only go on paved roads. If you have ever removed a rear bumper from a M1009 you will find it is on there good. I'm guessing that since the truck was not rated for civilian use, it has to be considered at the lightest rating, officially. I also think the military is conservative on their weight rating capacity across the board. They take into consideration the harshest conditions. We should also look at the harshest conditions of our own use and load accordingly. As with any hitch they can't be ignored, you should inspect it regularly. I had a class 3 hitch crack the frame on a F350 and I never towed more than a car trailer. With all that said I really like the way my m1009 tows my m101a2. I would not tow a m101 without the surge brakes.

There's 2 versions of the Sankey trailer...one is the older one from the 70's to the late 80's.Which is called a narrow track trailer(has drum brakes and no tailgate.The other version is the one from the late 80's to late 90's called a widetrack trailer(disc brakes and a tailgate.There's always a selection on the english E-bay site.But then there's the shipping to the states.Oh and the tow rings on both trailers rotate where as most US trailers they don't.Not recommended towing with the hitch on CUCV unless you stop the hitch rotating on on the CUCV like i have.

The lunette on the M416 rotates too, but my M1009 has a non rotating civvie pintle/ball hitch so it does not matter.

I had one of those pintle/ball hitch thingys.Made in south america somewhere.The ball is steel as is the main body of the hitch.The tee lock at the top is cast alu.Which cracked in half where the locking split pin goes through.I'm in the process of getting that bit remade in metal.

Mine is mostly cast with a steel ball, so far it has been good, but I have not given it a real stress test (don't particularly want to either)

Ditto on the Defender 90. I've loved that style/size/look since I first saw it years ago. I've seen a few around in central MD that are all tricked out for offroading, snorkel/roof rack/stickers, and whatnot. Once heard that they stopped importing them because of rollover hazard. Don't know if there's truth behind it. Love em either way!

It takes a lot to roll a land rover.Most ex mil soft tops have a double roll bar behind the seats.I don't know if hard tops have a roll bar
