I'm looking for opinions on the CUCV carg cover system. I have all of the hardware on my truck along with a cover and frankly think it sucks. I bought bows, got a used top, bought a new top and a new arctic top and after installing it once, I'm very dissapointed in the system. Anyone else dislike the cargo cover system on the CUCV? Think I'm going to just put on a steel topper.

I have my canvas top on m1008 all the time, It keeps things dry and keeps mud from covering up all my cargo. Yes, I am for the canvas top, plus its easy to remove if need be.

I dont have a problem with my vinyl coated canvas cover, is that the one you have? The worst part is undoing the quarter turn fasteners on the tail gate, but other than that, it keeps everything dry. If i need to throw fire wood in the back, i take it off but leave the bows in the stowed position.
It hurts the gas mileage a little.

Kenny, I agree with you, I have a straight M1008 with all turn snaps and original bows and a brand new vinyl cargo cover from EMR and I can not make it attach good enough to zip the rear zippers even on a hot day. I opt for a camper cap over this setup soon as I can afford one. JT out

My truck had one when I got it. The second thing I did when I got it home was remove it still have the bows. Asked if anybody needed and gave most of the 1/4 turns to a few on here that needed them. Still have a few. and the angle mounts are in scrap pile.

Hmmm, I must have one of the 'rare' good fitting covers. It dosent matter if its warm or cold out.....It zipps , snaps and Velcro's every time.

We had a motor sgt. that shortened up the bows and took the top to a upholstery shop and had the sides turned up and sewn. After it was done it was the same height as the cab. It looked good and had less wind resistance = better fuel mileage.
I remember hearing that they wanted to charge him with damaging govt. property but I am pretty sure all charges were dropped.

I have considered reconfiguring the bows and chopping the new top. I have a steel topper on an M101 at the FL Rally site and eventually will install that. For now I think I'm going to pull all of the parts off the truck and bring it and the 3 tops to the GA Rally and try to sell them. The arctic cover is stil in it's original box and is as heavy as a sack of anvils. The regular cover is also new in the box.

I don't have any experience with the 1008 covers, but I remember the cargo covers for the humvees we had while inservice sucked big time! all the zippers would work for a little bit and then would get gunked up and never zip again. Someone once told me to lube the zippers with chap stick, bad idea!
