CUCV Model year comparrison

I was looking for information on the advantages/dis-advantages across the model years of the GM CUCV line and I didnt see any one place where thoughts were consolidated.

So the question is: Are there any significant advantages or dis-advantages between the M1008 series or the M1009 series over the several years they were built?

Not comparing the p/u to the Blazer but trucks to trucks and Blazers to Blazers year to year.

They were all built to the same specs , just different delivery dates . Some of the very,very early ones may vary slightly .

I'd say you just have to look at the truck itself to see if it's in good shape. I have not heard of any major differences/desirability between years.

Here is a point to remember when it comes to parts compatability: My 1984 M1009 takes 1983 6.2L engine mounts (found this out the hard way). The '84 mounts will not line up.

I have been told that the DoD chose the design in 1983 and they asked GM not to change anything.

I like the 85+, but I would not make it a deal breaker if it was clean.

I like my 86 because it has the larger single sealed-beam headlights but I would've bought an '84 if it were clean and just swapped the grill if it bothered me later.

The hubs for the '84(I think) M1009 are different than the rest according to the TM. One of the models has different nuts than the rest.

I like my 86 because it has the larger single sealed-beam headlights but I would've bought an '84 if it were clean and just swapped the grill if it bothered me later.

All CUCV's have the single sealed beam (5"x7") headlights with the parking lights below them. Various civilian Chevy trucks had dual sealed beam (4x6) headlights with parking lights behind the grille (I think they were used on higher trim level trucks).

86 09's have a different front seat mount...much cleaner looking. 85 up trucks had frame supports added on each side about where the firewall is
