Hi
are the attached pics of an open carrier, or a trac loc, or Detroit locker, etc?
i thought it was supposed to be an open carrier but I'm thinking it might have a track lock. Thanks in advance for your help

That looks to be an open carrier. The rear axles had the Govlock.

These are axles from an M1008. In the rear there is a detroit locker.

Try Locking one hub then turn the pinion yoke by hand. If it rotates then It's a open diff. If not it is a trac-lok.

Pretty sure that is a trac-lock, open has more room in there

Since the diff in your photos looks like a Trac-Lok case, my guess is that it is.

It's on a m1008. Did they install the trac loc on the m1008s sometimes?

That I don't know, but I think I've read that they did on M1028s.
Maybe someone put a 1028 axle in a 1008?

Depo overhaul drive axle could have either. Why ask why, just say thanks.

Wouldn't be original, but these trucks were scavenged for parts. Axle could have been swapped in while in service or after.

Rusty does the vin have hd in it? Lots of times the doors got swapped, may have a 1028? But parts got swapped around a lot of times could be almost any reason to have that front. I have seen guys in service that just had to have certain parts on their gear and would swap things around after hours.

It doesn't have a vin, it's a parts truck. There are no overload springs in the back, which I hear means it's not a 1028.
