who does?

we never did...

if we crapped out a gauge we just replaced it with a new or used.. what ever works. Its not like the military changes oil on a time or millage thing... they send in a sample and have it tested to see if the oil needs to be changed. we did not change one trucks oil in 2 years.... just kept adding.

So really any gauge can NEVER be trusted.

Just thinkin' out loud here...if it was the ammeter that was missing (as some have suggested) and not having the wiring diagram in front of me, the system may not charge with the ammeter absent. I guess you could always connect the two wires together if this were the case. Comments?

The M35a2 has a volt meter, not an ammeter. It will function fine without any gauge except the air gauge.

O.K., to my knowledge here in Germany the US Army changed gauges as needed, except in the Depot maintainance, the total rebuilding of the truck to condition "NEW". There all gauges showed 0 hours, 0 miles before the test rides.
So the 64 engine hours are for my understanding the hours after the gauge change. If the engine was replaced with a rebuilt one it must carry rebuilding plates, were the oversize of pistons and bearings is also mentioned. New engines these days are practically not available any more.

The missing one is the ammeter, I guess.

i concur. since we've gone to AOAP system (years ago) we don't track hours. the AOAP report provides the direction on when an engine needs replaced. the motor pool still tracks mileage on dispatches, but it doesn't affect maintenance intervals.

the only thing that affects the maintenance intervals is the service catagory that it is coded in the ULLS-G box; if it's in a 'limited service' code (don't remember which code), then it lets you do [maintenance] services half as often (annual).

the ULLS-G box tells the unit when the truck is due for annual or semi-annual maintenance, and that's just based on time. every month you have the clerk run the services report to let you know which vehicles (and support equipment) will be coming up for services. if you don't do the service within the month it's due, then ULLS-G automatically reports the vehicle deadlined so that it cannot be dispatched.

so when a guage is swapped out, the mileage is updated in the ULLS-G box. for no reason, really, but it's done.

Yes, the CCKW does have an ammeter and if it breaks it will not allow the truck to start (its wired in series with the starter and battery as part of the generator circuit) but you could simply short them together and be back in business.

I have a SS member that has an air gauge.. so I should be good to go.
