DEMILITERIZED and Swiss M931a2 Build Thread

Picked up a m931a2 a few years ago from a interesting set of circumstances. Have steadily done some modifications to it but nothing major until now. The plan is to make it into a offroad dump truck. Truck is in pretty good shape overall but had a few quirks that needed to be worked out.

-First, didn't have a use for the 5th wheel so it had to go and a spare Mk15 bed was chained to the back of the frame to make the truck ride better and somewhat useable.

-Secondly, the 14.00s were taken off and g177s put on to make all our trucks run the same tires for interchangeability.

-Had a charging problem with the batteries so replaced the alternator and fixed that problem

-Truck was too quiet so a muffler delete was in order

-Picked up a m1082 LMTV trailer for the bed to use as a dump bed

-Had air leaking into the fuel system so had a hydraulic lines made to fix that problem (make sure you check your lines even with new ones had air leaking from new fittings)

-Took off mk15 bed to make space for working on the truck to prep for a dump bed

- Turned up the pump a bit (not a lot due to lack of pyrometer)

-Install new LQ-2 valve

-Came across a winch and wet kit from Elijah95 and a hood 10/23/21

-Installed winch bumper and hood 10/24/21

-Mached up hydraulic tank 10/25/21

TO DO LIST:

-Install pyrometer and boost gauge (DONE)

-Install Hydraulic tank (DONE)

-Install Air shift PTO

-Install Hydro Pump

-Plumb up hydraulics

-Move exhaust closer to passenger side of the cab (gain more space on the back for the dump bed)

-Install a valve to control dump functionality

-Increase pressure relief valve and install a secondary pressure relief

-Install Ph520 hydraulic hoist and hinges

-Turn up injection pump (DONE)

-Install LMTV bed

-Install bed side supports to support materials in the bed

-Paint Truck Behr "night mission green"

-Possible LED lights (DONE)

-Install higher governor springs

Maching up the Hydraulic tank required taking one of the straps off the fuel tank and sliding it forward. Will need to further modify one of the straps and drill holes to mount it as m932a2 has the hydraulic tank on top of the spare tire holder which we removed.

Got the tank bolted in. Pretty simple install just had to drill 4 holes in the frame and 2 on the bottom plate between the fuel tank and fender. Broke 4 cobalt bits so be careful if you try to drill holes in your frame.

Got a quick coat of paint on as well. Sprayed down the truck with water then sprayed "Flynn's ' Wild Dog'" on the truck and scrubbed the surface with a scotch bright pad. Make sure to soak the truck down in lots of water afterwards as it is very caustic and will pit the headlights and glass. Then did some primer in really bad areas and hit them with Rapco spray paint. Continued to camo the hood and turned out pretty nice. Also manually spooled the winch back in so it wouldn't be just wrapped around the frame rails.

Installed LED taillights

Bumped the full fuel rack limiter to the max

Took it for a 160-mile journey this weekend to the 2021 Ga MV rally. Drove great.

Bought MRAP mirrors and Trucklite LED turn signals. Installed both and Speaker headlights. The headlights are extremely bright and very happy with them. Mirrors are great.

REinstalled the 12-volt wiring for the low mode on the blower motor. Also installed a 3 in 1 pyrometer, EGT, and coolant temp gauge. (sorry I don't have more pics at the moment)

Turned up the low boost fueling and she runs good now. 39 psi of boost max and 1350 EGT pushing it hard uphill.

55 mph cruising speed 62 absolute max on GPS with g177s.
