Last year our buddy Doc (medicup) on SS realized we were old and decided to donate his military vehicles ( at least 11 of them) to the African American Military Museum in Hattiesburg, MS. It was a bitter sweet decision but in the long run it will be a good thing because untold numbers of folks will see and enjoy the vehicles for years to come.
The museum arranged to store the vehicles inside a warehouse off site until the new building to house them on site is finished. The building will be climate controlled and when it is finished (some time later this year?) a team of us old guys will go down there with materials to help create dioramas with the vehicles as the center piece.
As "Doc" was a medic in Vietnam, one of the biggest displays will include a "MASH" type diorama which will include a field hospital, M718, M170. and M43 ambulances (already sent) as well as surgical equipment etc.
Other vehicles include a DUKW, MB, GPW, M42, M37, M38, M38A1 and all these vehicles have already been sent.
Yesterday we loaded the final vehicle, a 1953 Rio Gas Deuce. (we loaded the deuce yesterday and it will be delivered next week.
Now all Doc has left is an M38 and an M114 and all I have left is an Air Force M38A1.
Here's a couple of pics of the loadout yesterday:
