Deuce temp guage

Got my new temp guage installed...no joy. Still reads minimum. Got to checking under the hood and noticed the wire to the sending unit is kinda crispy. Not burnt but the insulation has turned chalky. Going to replace the wire...but are there any impedance issues like with a thermocouple or can I just use regular wire?

I use regular wire. But I would check that sender, as that was probably the cause of the low reading. (and check the grounding at the dash panel).

The wire where it goes to the sender (in the block) get someone to flash it ground it while you observe the guage, if it goes all the way accross, proves the sender is faulty.

Not a bad idea to solder and heatshrink the new wire in place. I solder everything I repair or install eleictrically related on my truck.
Western union splice with marine heat shrink. This is my preferred method for connecting 2 wires. Wire terminals I solder because I apparently suck at crimping them.

If the sending unit, wiring, and gauge are okay, perhaps the thermostat is stuck open not allowing the water to heat up?
Just a thought......(I get them every couple of years..)
