I was told to use dex/merc atf fluid for the trans and power steering that ok to use?

Use Dextron 3, find a copy of the Quick Reference guide for HMMWV, Lube order and read the -10 all good sources of info. The TM's are your friend, all the info can be found in there, but if you're stuck ask, we've all been there once or twice.
