differences between M51A2 and M817

Do they have the same chassis?

Checking the manual, I found a few differences. The 817 is about 2000 lbs heavier, does that all comes down to the heavier engine?

The 817 does not differentiate between off-road and highway, restricting everything to a 10,000 lbs max load, whereas the M51A2 has a 20,000 max. The same goes for the max towed weight. Seems a disadvantage for the 817.

The chassis is longer on an M809 series truck to accommodate the longer engine. This is why you can't put the NHC250 in an earlier M39 series truck.

The operator manuals say that both are possible in the 176 inch wheelbase for the dump trucks

Wheelbase is the same, just the front frame on the M817 is longer.

I own both kinds of truck and the 855ci is longer in the front like those guy said but most parts can be interchanged . Dave

eee, right, wheelbase length does not automatically mean same chassis length.

All the parts should interchange except for the Engine, Hood , Front fenders and Front panels. The chassis and the running gear
are all the same and will interchange to include the Transfer Case, Axles, Fuel tanks, Cab and Dump Bed Assy
