diffrence between m-1028 and m-1008

I just bought a cucv and was wanting to know the diffrence between the two. I just bought what I thought was a M-1008 but it has a big power cord in the bed. What is it??

M1028 was designed to carry a shelter. Has rear overload springs, Trac-lok posi in the front axle, higher GVW 9400 vs. 8800 and shelter tie-down brackets in the bed.

The power cord in your bed could be for radio power. It might be an M1008A1, which had radio racks in the back. What's the NSN from the tag in the driver's door jamb?

That's an M1028 NSN. Check for a rear overload spring. Little spring mounted about an inch above the spring pack. Does the VIN start with 1GCHD? That's an M1028 VIN. M1008's are 1GCGD...

it begins with 1hgcd. is the m-1028 as good as an m-1008??

the 1028 is more prized because of the limited slip in the front axle, and the heavier load rating.
