Here’s some more pics. I always thought I was super on top of maintenance, checking out my brakes and bearings twice a year. When I tore into the rear I found that I had one wheel cylinder that was blown out and one was seized up. My front drums and shoes were nice and dry with even wear and nice clean grease. I’m preaching to the choir, but take the long road on the inner seals. Take apart both ends of the axle, then get a long rod and tap that seal out from the other side. Also, buy yourself a longer bolt for your boots, you have to bend and snip off the ends anyway.

I converted my truck last year. It wasn't too bad. I made my own caliper brackets for the F-550 calipers on the front. I did have to get some machine work done on the front hubs and rotors. about $900 at a local machine shop. Using the Ford F-700/B-700 15 inch rotors you have to grind the knuckle a bit where the inside edge of the rotor hits. You also have to grind down part of the caliper bracket so that it clears the hub. The rears were easy and cheap compared to the front axle. You do have to remove the rivets to get the drum brake backing plate off, and notch out that flange to fit the calipers. I used cutoff wheels and then decided to use my plasma cutter. I'm still using the stock master cylinder and air pack. It stops so much better now, it will almost send you through the windshield, and it almost feels faster. Maybe because there's less drag than the drums? I also had to press in new lugs on the front. I found some for a good price from some place in Michigan that does heavy truck springs.
Thank You!!!!
