I drive a 1008 daily and get 20mpg in the summer, winter it goes down due to 'winter fuel' and oil and grease is thicker so more rolling resistance and the fact I have an 8' snow plow on it. That truck does have a 700R4 in it and that is what makes the difference.
The best MPG I ever got was on a civvie 1/2T 2wd with a 700R4 I only checked when camping once and was towing an old but small 16 or 17' travel trailer and had the bed filled and a canoe on top 22MPG and that was running at 70MPH on I90 and then up and down in the Adirondack MT.
