Does this color look good on a MV?

First I used a wire brush to remove any loose paint chips. This works okay but I noticed it does not get all of the chips off. A paint scraper ended up working better on the flat surfaces. Then I powerwashed it all to remove any contaminants, sprayed with Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer, let it cure a week and then sprayed with a couple thin coats of Rustoleum Camouflage 1920 "Army Green". Not exactly olive drab, but not too terrible for a MV. Just thought I'd get some opinions before I go get more paint. I am stuck between Desert Sand, 24087 Olive Drab and this light "Army Green" by Rustoleum. I just want something that is durable and able to stand up to hard Arizona sun.

I think it makes her look fat. Darker is more slimming.

Just kidding, but It matters more what you think. I like a little darker though. The CARC is going to be the most durable if you have access to it and the equipment to spray it.

Not chalky at all, might have a little dust on it from sitting outside though. Well, I appreciate the input guys. If I stay with this color then I can always go with this type of camo job, a Canadian M135. I agree, a Desert Sand M211 would be sweet too. Now my head is spinning again. Thanks. :lol:

Any color in that range is great , protection is the most important thing in the end . I do like those tires a lot of guys would love them in the snows we are having .:mrgreen:

Although I cannot dispute the longevity of CARC on our vehicles, I also do not wish to deal with the negative effects of dealing with that type of paint myself.

I use a good rusty metal primer, and Rustoleum is fine for that and sprays well with Naptha for thinner.

I use a latex exterior premium paint that I had matched to the Carc 383. I have parked my truck next to fairly freshly CARC painted MVs and not really been able to tell the difference between the two.

The other nice aspect of the latex is that is easy to clean up, touches up well, and can be sprayed on as well using an HVLP gun with warm water as a thinner. It helps greatly if the paint is warm as well.

I know the purist will say that is the wrong way to paint a deuce or any other MV and I will admit it is not per the TM, but I have to live with my truck, and deal with maintaining it and I like the physical attributes of the paint I use and the cost which is 20 dollars a gallon. I have been doing this almost two years and have not seen any serious degradation of the paint in that time. This includes my daily driver which I have driven through the miserable snow and salt and cold of Upper NYS.

To each their own, and I have decided I am satisfied with what i am doing and will continue to do the same as before. I am just passing along my experiences and what I have done.

Latex paint? Very interesting, I am an out of the box kind of guy........not to mention they can mix up nearly any color I need.
I know green and brown make Olive drab, would just need to bring a sample in for them to match. How durable is it to say, walking on?
I don't mind the usual wear areas like running boards, bumpers, etc. I think it adds character to a painted truck and helps it retain that well used but taken care of appearance.

The box of my truck was completely blistered and there was not a shred of paint on it. I scraped and wire brushed it until it was clean and the rust was gone. I sprayed two coats of Rustoleum rusty metal primer on it and then two coats of the latex. I have a shelter on the back of my truck so it does not get much traffic But....

Last fall, I pulled the shelter off and hauled a 9 ton load of driveway fill sand gravel and shale. I shoveled it off with no ill effects on the paint. Even pulling the shelter and putting it back on with a roll back did not seem to bother it much.

I do not mind touching things up and I repainted my hood this spring over last year's application of 3 color camo in about 2 hours over the existing paint. This was due to the slobber from the exhaust staining the paint and of course bird droppings. The second coat actually looks better than the first.

I pressure wash my truck to clean it and it seems to hold the paint fine.

I am not going to say that this is tought as CARC or any other automitive paint, but then again as I said before, you do what you are comfortable with, and I like being able to go to my Lowes with my paint formulas and getting my paint right then and on the cheap.

I am not a purist and am definitely not a rivit counter if you know what I mean. I am just trying to get the job done and saving as much as I have on paint has allowed me to do other things.

I am going to go for it! I'll admit it sounded REALLY el cheapo redneck at first, but some google searching revealed many posts here on SS on using Latex house paints on MV's. It seems that with today modern technology even latex based paints can rival the durability of the older alkyd enamels. I'm going to take a NOS part down to home depot and have them make a little test can of 24087 Olive Drab. If it goes on well and looks good after a few weeks I'll prep the entire truck and roll/spray the entire thing.
