Rebuid an alt with isolated ground

My #2 alt lamp is on steady as of this morning. I can't seem to find one on the shelf. Am I looking too hard? I am sort of in a hurry cause the hunting season opener is here. Where can I find one on the shelf- I'd take it to a rebuilder; but the one I normally use has closed up.

Anyone have a part number I understand it is a 27SI 100 amp Isolated ground- Napa's website use to give all this info; but I can't seem to find it on their new site.

Take the drivers side isolated ground alt and install it on the pass side. Get the 100a alt, case ground, for the drivers side. Order the rebuild kit fron cucv electric and rebuild yours as a spare.

The parts stores won't have one. NAPA does carry a rebuilt unit that is a special order. ~$220 rebulit by Wilson Elecric.

The pully will more that likely need to be changed. What ever you do DON"T give them your old one. Keep it and rebuild it.

Only problem is that there has been many reports that they have not been rebuilt correctly. Some do not have an issolated ground.

There are some new ones for sale on fleabay. No experience with the quaility.

You can buy a rebuild kit for $40 and 98% of the time you can fix them yourself. Sometimes there is a hardpart that breaks (case, rotor, armiture, etc)

I can rebuild one in about 40 minutes, taking my time. First one will take you 1-2 hours.

Just bought this Wilson alternator (WIL 90014277) per member's help. Had a evil thought as I was fixing to put it in. Some threads I have read warn that some of these alts were delivered with the oversight of forgetting to isolate the ground. I did not want to fry anything, and since the very notion of an Isolated ground is new to me, I thought I better ask if the rubber/fiber washers indicated on this pic mean that the alternator has been rebuilt as an ISOLATED GROUND UNIT, and therefore safe to install on the passenger side of my stock Blazer's charging system.


I did check continuity between points indicated and find no continuity; but as I said I am new at this...

You indicate that there is no continuity between the ground stud and the alternator case. That's isolated ground.

Doghead, thanks for the reply. I'm on it. As for posting separately, I thought about this after I posted and went back to my last thread and revised my last post. Sorry, I am trying to keep them limited so that one can follow the thread to resolution and not miss something- it just started to rain, I got desperate for a quick answer. If you want to close this thread and move the replies to the end of my other thread, I have no problem with that.

The pass side one on my 1008 fried last week, I mean smoke pouring out of it. I got water in it while powerwashing(a no no with an isolated Alt). What ever you do don't get water in one, it was not pretty.

While I am at it... I notice this condenser- "capacitor" per the TM, bolted to the rear of the Passenger side ALT. (bottom of the picture). Could this be to limit radio interference? My radio always has static. If not, what is it for and where can I get another one to replace it? P/N?
