Personally, I tack weld a small SS washer onto the rod ends (that will never break off or fail, but can still be pulled off with plyers if needed).

But I know some like to "keep it OEM" so....

Yep, even when not on sale these can be found at most autoparts sites. They've been used in car/truck doors since the 50's.

Or you can pay $20 for a set plus overpriced shipping from....the greedy.

I bought those and they really don't work as well as the plastic bushings. The eyelets are too large resulting in slack in the linkage then the door release doesn't operate as it should. I'm staring at a bag of them on my workbench right now with mixed feelings.

The 5/32" ones? Because that is what came on the A1Rs. I've worked with them in 60-70's cars/trucks forever with no issue (as you say, they have to be the right size for the rod).

Now there are throttle linkage clips that are identical that are too large, but this type clip comes in a couple sizes.

Next time I pull a door panel I'll get some tolerance specs, but mine were pretty tight. As I said, I replaced them with tacked on washers because I don't like the plastic wearing out, becoming brittle.

In any even, the title holds true.

They sale them at orileys 2 or 3 in the little clear hang up on pegs carton like 3 or 4 bucks and in the HELP packaging red pkgs if you dont need so many

Yep, just remember that you need the L and R clips for each rod (if I recall). My first truck had several of the plastic ones that were so brittle they fell apart at the touch. I used the plastic Dorman HELP kits that had like one of each size but one broke one of the 4 tabs off while fitting it into the hole, so back to Oriley I went. And if I recall the lock rods used some that were just the insert snap (no brace clips to the rod). That was years ago, so I don't recall the price, but it was under $10 (it just wasn't enough to replace more than one rod set).

When I got the A1R I saw that they used the old-school '50s Chevy type. I ordered a couple boxes of the metal ones (a L and a R) and replaced them all. Months later I had pulled the door panel looking to see how I could mount a small LED that would illuminate entry. It dawned on me that I could tack a washer onto the rod, so I pulled all the clips and did. Haven't messed with that truck's rods since (over a year I guess).

I re-did both doors for a buddy last year since it was a '97 and I had the clips on my workbench. I'd forgotten about them until the other day when they came up in a discussion online. I was trying to find the link to Henry's when I noticed that they were on sale yesterday.

While I doubt my tacked-on washers will ever fail, I keep a baggy with a few sets in my truck tool box. If I even have to pull a washer off with a pair of plyers to fix something else in the doo while on the road, I can slip on on. Quick fix and I can be back in action. But honestly, I'd rather have the piece of mind that they are welded on. ymmv

I doubt anyone will ever need 50 of them (unless you want to start selling them to fellow community members here for $10 ea and get rich).

I just wanted to pass along a good deal. Because if you've ever replaced one, you've likely replaced another eventually. And another...

The right printer and material isn't cheap to do it, so I get that.

this has been discussed in here over and over... nothing new presented here so far*. But in case folk in future searches find this thread first..

surprisingly... for longevity the plastic is better. The plastic is sacrificial.... it will wear....or age out as mentioned in here. Metal clips puts the metal rod into the lock/latch hole and holds it there well... for years in fact..... BUTTTT it bounces around, slides back and forth there; rubbing metal on metal (and rattling) which wears out the rod and wears out the hole it is going into. Now you or the next guy..... has worse issues many years later... elongated holes and worn out ends of the rods.

I used Dorman universal pack of plastic rod clips (maybe 8 various clips per pack?) available in most every auto parts store... took two packs to have enough of the right size to do a side. drilled out the plastic a hair to fit the rod. The clip's end that fit into the lock/latches hole was fine.

the ones listed in the spread sheet are NOT the expensive ones. They Yellow spread sheet started by Wes Simpson ( @simp5782 ) is intended to be more over the counter-ish, user tested, and less specialized when ever possible.

But the big question out of all this is when the IRS will let us write off these trucks as a dependant !!!!!!!

Yep, same concept/design. Chevy used them in doors back in the '50s. I'm sure they even pre-date that.
