Downshift or not to downshift?

If I was taking a trip as you were Bjorn, I'd most likely invest in one...but considering that I don't tow large amounts or have lots of hills, etc. it's not a purchase I'm interested in (new that is). I like what it did for you on your trip though...must have eased your thoughts many times.

A vacuum pump operates under very little load when at high vacuum. An engine is the same way.

Mr. Bjorn, what would be the effect of throtting the intake (foot off the 'gas' of course) as a brake? Have you ever tried it?
