Have you priced an M1028A2 or M1028A3? Awful lot of money to do a swap. I did my shop truck in my avatar for around $250. $150 for front rotors and $100 for the chassis cab rear. Swapped over the Detroit NoSPIN.Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a M1028 dually?

A decent one will set you back $7500. Basket cases usually sell quick at $3000. Problem is that there aren't many to choose from.How much is a 1028a3?
The m1028 dually also have fender flares.
Just wondering if them Humvee tires fit on the stock dually rims?? If i remember right those rims are very narrow.Its been a while but here i go put the dual hubs on, bought two inch spacers and viola. Monster cucv need to see about finding a set of dually fenders or going either flatbed or utility body. Running four 37 hummvy tires in rear and two of the new mtr's in front.

If I were to set out to build a CUCV pickup into a dually, I'd start with front rotors. There are any folks in the 4x4 world willing to trade rotors/hubs. Likely could be done even up. I see Dana 70 rears out of 2WD trucks selling often. Finding one with 4.56 gears might take a spell. I think high end would be $500 (more than I'd pay). Myself, I'd try to find the wide 14 bolt from a 90s dually and remount spring perches. I could swap over the locker from that. A orkable civilian bed could be had for $400/500. The other route is the spacers and they have worked in the past, just not something I'd do.
That could be done as well. At that point I'd keep the M1028A2/3 as long as it was a solid truck. I have a thing for the chassis cab rears. How about buying one and swapping the parts you want over to your M1008 or whatever and sell the M1028 as a M1008? I am sure you can at least get the parts for free by doing that.
