Duals with flipped hubs

Whats up guys... the deuce i just bought has the rear hubs flipped and is running stock wheels in single configuration. I want to put the duals back on it but thinking about putting them on without flipping the hubs back around...not worried about width but want to make sure I won't hurt anything by running stock duals in single configuration on rear... thanks in advance

You can do it but it is harder on the bearings, puts more stress on them. But I'm guessing if your not worried about width you probably aren't driving on the road much if at all.

I do some road riding and some off road... just looks funny with the 900x20 tires in single configuration... going to do the axle wheels seals on the rear this weekend so trying to decide if I should flip the hubs back and run duals or keep singles for now until if find some larger singles and rims... any input?

If you're going to run duals flip the hubs back around. I'm sure you'll be way over legal width otherwise and yes it looks goofy the 9.00's singled out. I guess decide what tire you want to run and flip the hubs accordingly. I've got a deuce with 46's with the hubs flipped out and another on 11.00 G177's dual with the hubs in.

The doubles on a single configuration look ridiculous..and, are way out too far to be legal.
So, you want to off road?.
Look up any road test or report, (And) the single wheel configurations beat the doubles every time.
So people comment that lookes? What?. As you sail past the guy (s) stuck in the mud!. Sand or midden.
I would never ever consider changing the configuration of my G.M.C. M135
((Kraz, Ural. Zill, Kamaz..)),(Which beat all).

Thanks guys... I think I will just keep the 900 singles right now until I find some 1100 or 395 85 20 on rims and order adapters... won't be doing any serious off roading until I get my winch installed

Let me get this clear, the hubs are set up with the flange in the wide position for duels but you have one half budd dual on it and no outer wheel. As opposed to the flange set up in the narrow position, flange against the drum......which I don't think will accept the budd with the dish in. Correct me as it seems you just add the other budd to have OEM setup.

The (rear) singles with dish out need the flange narrow, against the drum. My A3 has the wide setup and dish in mounting for the singles. I will be "flipping" (putting flange against drum) to go to dish out....wide but in legal limit. Can't mount dish out in the wide position....gets too wide and bad on bearings. My A3 wheels are 11".

Personally I like the 11.00 rear dual budds and the A3 wheels with 365 on the front.

I do like the duals but the super single look good and seem to perform better based on the majority of threads on here... does anyone near south Carolina have a set of 7 395-85r20 wheels and tires in good condition for sale? Don't want to drive too far to get them but will go to GA or NC if need be

And I have 22 9.00x20 wheels and tires right now in decent shape... im going to keep 11 of them just in case but I would sell the other 11 if anyone is interested... never been regrooved

Flange out is the proper setup for running singles whether it be 9.00X20 or 14.5R20 such as the A3. The flange needs to be inward to run duals on the rear and keep them under the bed. If you plan on flipping your A3 rims to dish in, plan on purchasing the special chamfer tool so that you can chamfer the inside of the lug holes. Unlike a 5 ton that are chamfered on both sides, the A3 rims are not. Member Dirt71 encountered this a great number of years ago when A3s were just coming out.

It sounded like the OP has the hub flange wide, like in the photo, running with a budd, dish in, as a single. But yea, photos would help.

After other projects, mine will get flipped....and all 5 wheels chamfered.

By the way, I have 2 spare A3 rims with reasonable 14.5's....like for front.

Your data is incorrect here. The flange out is for singles whether it be A3 or 900x20 singles on a budd dual rim. Moving the flange in is where it is required to be to run duals. If you add duals to the flange out position, your rear axle is going to be nearly 9' wide at the outside of the outer tires.

Im curious if I could run my 11/20's as singles, with stock hub setting (not flipped) in the winter, then duals in the summer. since I have to chain up for winter time and I can only chain the outside tires because the 3 ring chains would hit the trunion.
