I did hydraulic assist.
Verdict: probably overkill. A good box bolted to the frame is, IMO, A-ok. Assist with a decent sized ram requires ALOT of fluid.
I started with this setup:
New steering - manual component - a set on Flickr
And then switched to this box:
New deuce steering - a set on Flickr
No pics of it installed, sorry. I bolted it to the frame, along with a 3/8" plate that runs about 15" along the frame, to reinforce that area, which itself was also bolted directly to the frame.
So.... my advice would be to get a good box, and just drive it sensibly, not stressing the steering when it's not moving.
