Engine and trans swap done

Today I had a full day to devote to getting the 3208 cat engine and five speed OD trans in my bobbed deuce.I made a new front bracket the rears are just temporary to get the height and clearances right.I am useing a brand new trans right out of the can its a five ton trans for added durability.I made an adapter plate to use the stock five ton jack shaft and still use the deuce transfer case.Tomorrow I will make the two rear brackets and the engine will be completely secured in the frame.

The stock 90 degree exhaust elbow was still on the engine when I bought it I will route it around the trans and to the back.It will go to the rear of the cab to a Y and each run will go to its individual exhaust stack.The elbow and pipe under the cab will be wrapped with the heat shield used on headers.

The engine is two hundred fifty horse power I have the torque specs down at the shop.

Sweet! Can't wait to see how it all fits together when the cab and fenders are put on. Why they had to put the turbo like that I don't know as it makes the exhaust a bit tricky. I've been toying with the idea of a non turbo Cat 3208 powered bobber myself but with a commercial 6 speed tranny (used to have a Dodge truck with a Cat 1150 and a Cat V8 is cool when it comes to the "something different" factor). My other choice for an engine would be a Detroit Diesel 6V53T.

Anyhow, thanks for posting the pictures. Great work and can't wait to see more.

What HP and TQ is that engine good for?

Non turbo 3208's were around 200-210 hp and 450 to 500 ft. pounds of torque. Turbo'd 3208's had around 225-250 hp and something like 600 to 650 ft. pounds of torque. At least in truck trim. They were also used in marine apps and could have one or two turbos and be set up for 300 to 350 hp. Because a Cummins 6BT can be easily tweeked to exceed the output of the 3208 many people think it's a waste of time to use the Cat instead of the more common Cummins. Guess they can't understand the cool factor of having something that's not just another Cummins.

I have four naturally asparated 3208s sitting in the shop the next one I do I will use one of them.The exhaust manifolds will be changed though I have two sets of manifolds from 3208s that were used to power hydraulic pumps they run straight back unstead of down toward the frame rails of the truck.

You say you're using a 5-ton transmission... are you using one of the Overdrive transmissions from an M809 series truck or one from the M39 series (not OD)?

Its for the 809 series I believe its the 6453 model.

that exhaust location looks sketchy. I'm trying to figure out how you are going to make that shifter work...cut a hole in the pipe for it? I think maybe trying to put a Y split in there to split to each side of the shifter and down might work. Hard to tell in the pic, but trying to find an elbow to make that bend will be tough.

OK. It's a shame, you should put this in a stock truck where the power could really be used... but having never driven a bobber, I guess I can't talk about whether or not they are lacking as much as the regular trucks. Regardless, this thing is gonna sound shweet.

The stock elbow has the bend in it the truck had a 10 speed in it factory the shift lever was in the same spot in the stock truck.The truck will have 1400-20 tires on it the stock multi is still underpowered even with the truck bobbed.

Cat Engine installed

Don't sweat the exhaust connection. The turbo flange is an SAE standard and mates to a standard Marmon clamp - there are a zillion different combinations. And vendors with catalogs full of mating pipes.

As far as the Cat 3208 vs a Cummins 6B. Remember there is no replacement for displacement.. Cummins 6B = 5.9 Liter and the Cat 3208 is an honest 10 liters!!!! That's 636 Cu In
or also most twice the displacement of the Cummins.

The truck will have dual stacks exhaust will be straight out of the turbo this is the cab going on the truck.
