Engine swap, jake brake

I recently picked up a m923 with a NH 250 Cummins. Has anyone ever heard of replacing the engine with a turbo/intercooled unit with compression brake? Its pretty much mountain country around here. Is the starter and all the other components interchangeable? Has anyone ever put jakes on one of these things before? For the record, I am diesel proficient, but this is not a standard highway truck.
