Exhaust stack gasket replacement?

I'll soon be disassembling the exhaust stack on a M923A1 in order to clean some small rust spots and apply paint. I see in the TM that there are 3 gaskets. Is it standard practice to replace the gaskets when one disassembles the exhaust piping, or are they reusable if they look good? Any experience on this is greatly appreciated.

And if you have disassembled the exhaust piping, what condition are the gaskets typically in?

I have removed some exhaust pieces. All the gaskets were bad and you will most likely want to clean off all the old gasket and install some new ones so that your clamp for the connection gets tight again and seals up well. I just had some gaskets made at a local gasket shop but I figure someone has some gaskets that you could buy.

When I disassembled my stack, I had gaskets in hand thinking I would replace them. The old ones came out fine and looked great so I reused them and saved the spares for a rainy day. Who'd a thunk?

Following this thread as my A0 has a rotten section of exhaust under my cab. My gaskets are pretty much gone. What was there looked like cork (?).

There are two different types of gaskets on the A0 (stem to stern), and based on the comments, it appears the turbo models as well. I just camped out on the forbotten site with an automatic searched until they showed up and bought them. They come up from time to time.

The disassembly, clean, paint, and reassembly went well. Took me about 5 hours. Disassemble starting at the top and work towards the engine. Reassemble in the opposite direction -- begin near the engine and work towards the top. The muffler was a bit challenging working alone. The gaskets looked sort of like a heavy duty cloth/plastic with a wire mesh core. You can't see the core on the new gaskets, I saw the wire mesh on one of the gaskets that I removed. Note: When you remove the 4 bolts that secure the muffler guard, make sure and be prepared to catch the nut, washer, and lock washer on each of the four bolts that hold it on. If you drop them, you can likely retrieve them with a bent clothes hanger like I did. It wasn't difficult. Oh yea...high temperature paint might be good.

Thanks for the very timely thread. After a run in the local St Patrick's Day Parade...the bottom of my muffler blew out on the way home. My M923A1 was loud before...but it's real loud now!

I'll be getting a new muffler soon...and from the sounds of this thread...some gaskets too!
