Extended storage start-up?

My Deuce has been stored indoors, in the barn for the last six-seven months. When it was parked for the last time, last fall, I had taken the batteries out of the truck and brought them into my shop. I then put them on a battery maintainer/tender over the winter, that way they would keep their charge and be fresh and ready to go in the spring.

My question is....After extended storage like this, is there any thing I should do, other than reinstall the battries and hit the starter button?

Also, my in-tank fuel pump went out last fall, how much of a problem will this add to the starting, as its been sitting for so long?

I would suggest you turn the engine over on the starter with the fuel cut off still out. Just like the -10 manual or PM magazine suggest you do each time you go to start the truck up. This will lesson the damage if there is oil, fuel or coolant in a cylinder.

Of course, you should check all the fluids before you do anything.

Without the lift pump, it should start if there is still fuel in the filters and IP. If they are all empty, you might have some problems.

I would also suggest you start the engine with the clutch pushed down and the transmission out of gear. That way, less drag is pushing against the starter and if the clutch isn't working, you won't put a new window in your barn.

You may have to give it a bump of ether to help prime the system since you're in-tank pump is out.

Yeah, like BC says, make sure you drop the air cleaner canister. They crawl in the 1" hole on the back side and build huge nests. Just found one today in my LDS-465-1A Deuce today before the first start up in 3 years. I check oil, antifreeze, air cleaner, brake fluid, start,at idle til oil pressure comes up, check gauges, warm up, check air gauge, blow horn, Thank God it worked. JT out

My old Deuce just got fired up for the first time in almost a year. It got put on the back burner because of some issues at home and life events. I buttoned up the nickle and dime stuff left from the clutch swap, put on a Ford solenoid in place of the relay (just to get it running again) and roared him up. I should have probably rolled the engine over a little longer than I did, but I didn't want to kill the batteries. It took probably 10 seconds to get oil pressure, I DID NOT like that.
