Fair price on Two MEPs ?

In about one week I will be driving 500 miles to pick up two MEP-802a on a trailer. The man is asking 7200.00 for the whole set. The gens appear to be in good shape and they run, hrs on both are 30 and 40, gens built in 2010.

I'm new to these kinds of gens but been told they are far better than store bought and last longer. I live in Florida and always kept a stand-by gen for the house.

QUESTION: Is that a fair price, 7200.00?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert, but asking price for a single MEP-802a in my area is $3500-$4000. $7200 for two with trailer feels like an average price for that package.

Does the trailer have a clean title?

Lukewarm deal in my opinion too. You'd need to factor in titles for the trailers too.

I would also add that small (5kW), ruggedized, 1800 rpm diesel generators with brushless genheads are basically non-existent in the commercial world, and would be very expensive if they were common. So I take these prices with a grain-of-salt because the 802a fills a niche. However $7200 is not a trival amount of money for most folks, and better deals can be found if you are willing to wait or repair a non-runner.

I do think that would be a great package for someone living in a hurricane area. In an emergency, "two is one and one is none" definitely applies and the ability to easily transport 1700 lbs of generators is a big plus.

The extra money buys you twice the capacity (and twice the fuel expense to run) so load management would be easier. But if your stove and hot water are using natural gas or propane, the smaller gen's would be ok.
