It only effects HMMWV's , there are no issues registering any other MV's just have your paperwork in order before you go to the SOS. Michigan is MV friendly for everything other than HMMWV's
Porkysplace is correct. The SOS is more than happy to title and register your non-HMMWV military vehicle and take your money ASSUMING you have all the correct documentation they ask for, don't give them any lip and are not doing something specious like attempting to register a 5-ton as a 23,000 pound pickup truck!
But I am confused by the negative comments about the Bills and the petition...
I am assuming you all have read the three bills (SB344, SB345 and SB346) passed and sent to committee on Tuesday? I have and need some clarification on the reactions to them and the petition.
Are you arguing and petitioning against the bills that were introduced and passed on to committee that would give Michigan HMMWV owners currently unable to title and register their vehicles for on-road use (because of "off road use" sf-97's) a way to legally title and register your vehicles, albeit with "Historic Vehicle" restrictions? I can't figure it out...
I thought the fight of the HMMWV community here in MI specifically was to get the "off road use" branded vehicles recognized for regular "on road" use. Isn't a "Historic Vehicle" designation a good first step towards that goal? Use an incremental approach? Show the state that you are appreciative hobbyists and good citizens that will operate under the restrictions and don't have any major "incidents" with your vehicles for the opposition to point to and then at a later date go after legislative changes to get options for full no-restriction usage?
The SOS will never be supportive of registering any moving vehicle branded for "off road use" as it is outside the norm and puts them in an uncomfortable position. You are not going to get from "no use" to "unrestricted use" in one shot.
OK. Fine. Prove to them they are wrong and your HMMWV's can be safely operated on our roads by responsible owners!
