First Lesson About Operating My Generator In Cold Weather

Well it was cold here at 19 degrees, I didn't loose power but when I went to check out the generator an start it up the hinges on the front cover were frozen. Had had to pour hot water on the hinge to get it open, I guess I'll cover it tonight just encase I need it tonight. That won't happen again! Stay Safe!!

I hope you left that cover open! pouring hot water on something in freezing weather just guarantees it is going to freeze tighter and much faster soon after you do that. Best thing to do is get it open and then spray it with WD40 to get rid of the water and after that lube the hinges with spray grease or graphite lube. The spray grease will prevent water from gathering in the hinge again and freezing in the future. Graphite will do the same plus keep dirt and dust from adhering to the grease.

That's a great ideal, I just used a heat gun to dry out the hinge. I'll spray some dry graphite on as soon as I warm up again.

Just an update, then hinge on my front panel door has ice on it again but after putting that graphite spray on it like Rick F suggested it opens like a champ!
