02.13.5 Fuel Pump Shim Packs Extreme care must be taken to ensure that the individual shim packs that are fitted between each fuel pump plate and the crankcase are retained with their original respective cylinder. The colour coded shims are available in three sizes: Green ........ 0.075mm (0.003in). Slate blue .. 0.125mm (0.005in). Black ......... 0.250mm (0.010in) I incorrectly identified the 3 shims as grey. They are Slate Blue (Somewhat Grey to the uninformed mind). From the L/P Shop Manual

Well Ray, I ran the Gen for a while this evening (Amb Temp 89, Hum 66) Unit Temp about 183 Degrees. Exhaust temps W/ Cardboard) 193, 194, 195, 195. The sound was healthy diesel bass hum-vibration. The freq meter was a steady 60 and the voltmeter a steady 240. The Ammeter was showing the charging of the batteries. Oil was good (38 psi) and so was the coolant. Hobbs meter formerly read 78, now it reads 81. Next, I will build a load for testing and exercising the set. Your help and that of others has been invaluable. It looks like the $750.00 was a good deal. I have spent much time reading TM's and gleaning info from the forum and related threads. The set had fuel problems, that was the first course. The I/J pumps looked bad on the outside, but were hardly worn, a big plus. I installed new I/J's. The next course was tinkering with the set to get it running properly. Thanks to all! Happiest of 4ths, I love America!!!

Well, next is the load test. I put the muffler on last evening. It is much quieter. I wonder how the set got into this condition. However, it is a jewel in the rough. I looked on Gov planet to see whar units sold for (5K-8K).

They are over 8 hours away. Wife and I will make a road trip out of it. I was just looking around the net when I saw these. So, I worked up a bid to see how it would go. It surprised me that I was able to get them so cheaply. Now, to get them and see how they work. I was glad to see the cables. I've been reading the tech manual, especially safety and operations. I look forward to seeing how my 803 really works. Blessings upon America and upon us!

I think you will like them. Easy to use. Simple technology. Read the book, but you are already doing that. One word of advice. Ground them well. They are in the norm, very reliable, but I have first hand knowledge of one having a fault, not being grounded right, (if at all) and a good friend of mine was badly shocked by one. They make good heaters. We used to hook them up to a gen set that was not pulling enough load and place the load bank in the tent. Make a lot of noise, but we stayed warm!

I will be careful to follow the grounding recommendations. I also heard a story of severe shock from an improperly grounded unit.

Adding insult to injury, I'm flying back to Kansas to drive my oldest boy's H3 Alpha back to AZ. Could have killed 2 birds with 1 stone!!!

It was somewhat of a happenstance. I decided to take a look and I was pleasantly surprised. They are old. One looks like S/N 2. My wife and I will make a bit of a road trip out of it. Then I will see what I have. Thank you for the post and I hope you can be equally fortunate.

It's worth the 8 hour drive just for the BBQ. Everything past that is just a bonus. I have been attempting to get my wife do the drive with me and that's 25 hours each way..

The last time I was in Kansas was for work pre-covid, I must have added 10lbs that week.

Good find... hope it works when you get around to needing it. Those pumps aren't very reliable, so keep a plan B in the back of your head in case.
