Can't speak for the General, but in my case that'd be a 140-mile drive. One way. I'm guessing that his situation may not be much better.
But Greyhound is indeed a good way to get some items shipped. I got a hardtop (for a car) from St.Louis, MO, that way, and it arrived in great shape.

There is no book with a complete diagram that I have been able to locate. I have written a couple of long posts on the repair method which uses a lot of patience and the electrical system diagnosis section of the technical manuals. (Starts on Page 3-63 of the technical manual ). There is no quick fix, expect some bonding time with your new SEE ;). If I did it over again I would take the loader off to get easier access.

Unless you have access to a commercial printer, you will burn up a lot of paper and toner printing them out. They are much easier to use on a computer. When doing the electrical repair I had the laptop setup next to the truck and used the CTRL F function to search for wire codes.

Go Greyhound. At least that's worked for me in the past, as I'm not far from a Greyhound bus route. If the buyer and seller both have access to Greyhound, their cargo rates were very competitive, last I checked.

Here's the part where over half the folks reading this message are like, you can ship stuff via Greyhound? ;)
I've shipped Greyhound before. It's quick and cheap.

He also has about a dozen brand new NOS Bosch starters for the FLU419. I'm getting one of those from him just to have. Pretty sure he got everything off govliquidation.com.

I'm missing the spare on one of my SEEs. I've been shopping around too, but haven't found the elusive bargain. The GP yard in Texarkana has spare SEE tires and wheels laying around, but haven't had any luck talking them out of one.
I can bring 5 SEE tires with me to the Georgia rally but I want to get rid of all of them for 500 they came off my SEE cause I put 365's on it. They are about 90 percent and one has never hit the ground!

How common is it for the SEE trucks to still have this mechanic's tool set, in addition to the hydraulic tools? What about the jack and wheel chock? I wonder why the military, while spending tax payer dollars, didn't go ahead and included the hydraulic impact wrench? It sure would make service or changing a tire a lot easier. Guess I'll be looking for one on ebay. Was each truck originally issued with either the cab tilting parts and/or the big tall jack used to remove the front end loader?

Looks like you hit the jackpot. TM-2410-224-10-HR (copy attached below)is the hand receipt list for the Basic Issue items that was supposed to be issued for the SEE and HMMH. I expect you can check off a lot of the boxes. One of the other manuals have additional goodies that could be requested by the crews. I would speculate that one of the tasks of the rebuilds would be to replenish the basic issue items.

The hand tools are all Stanley Industrial hydraulic tools painted green. The hose connectors are standard flat face couplings. If you want to drool over all the goodies, like water pumps and crimpers you can plug in, here is link to one firm with pricing http://atlanticutilityservice.com/. Because these tools are used by electric utilities and require a hydraulic source, similar items show up on ebay that aren't painted green but could use a rebuild. The somewhat easier option is a 24 volt impact wrench that plugs into the slave plug. This seems to be a far more common military surplus item and bit more practical as having to run the SEE to run the hydraulics while changing a tire is not a great idea which is probably why they didn't issue it. By the way the hydraulic jack is actually fairly rare as its a longer stroke then generally available. I don't have one and with the long suspension travel, I have to use wooden blocks to do the lifting in steps. There is source of new ones on Ebay out of England but the price with shipping is in usually in the $300 range. I have found a US sourced equivalent pump with similar long stroke ram but the price is still steep.

The cab pivot brackets, cab support kit and the front end loader jack do not appear to be basic issue. I expect they are much rarer as they would only be issued to the maintenance group assigned to support the local fleet. EI had a complete set of service tools which is still on the website but is not for sale as it was sold long ago. They also have a listing for the cab support also not for sale. One of the members of this forum (or maybe Benz World) named Speedwobble made up some very nice laser cut cab pivot brackets last year, these aren't optional, if you want to tilt the cab you need the brackets. I bought his trial set but still haven't tried it out but given his research he did I no doubt expect they will work. Given the recent flood of SEEs being sold I expect it may be worth his going back into production. There are probably work arounds for the cab support bracket (but realize serious injury could happen if the cab comes down on someone who doesn't do it right. Von had a set listed on his website at one point.

I plan to build the loader support bracket one of these days using a screw jack from a trailer. Not much too it once I fabricate up a square tube with holes for a retaining pin that plugs into the receptacle on the loader.

MsMog I am going from 90 to 59 to Jeff Davis (CSM Davis) house in Hattisburg, on the 18th then leaving from there daybreak on 19th to rally, also in box cleaned up!

MSMOG, it looks like you got an amazing SEE there, congrats and welcome to the crazy world we all love to hate.

In regards to tires, I just pulled the trigger on new Conti MPT81s. I would have gotten them from EI but the freight was killing me. I beat up on my local rep here enough to make them almost comparable to the $350 used Mich XZLs that are available from CSM Army Tires.

I'm not sure if this is actually true as the local guy would have sold me either tire, but he said that Michelin has the thinnest sidewall in the industry on purpose to make it ride better. However, I like the idea of a thicker sidewall for puncture resistance and stability. He also looked up the manufacturer rated pressure for the tire that comes on the SEE. Although the Army TM states the pressure to be 40psi for all applications, that is apparently much lower than the 80-90 psi rating from the manufacturer (he actually said that we are basically running our tires about half-flat at 40psi). So, long-winded way of saying that it's possible that the low pressure combined with the low load rating of those mil-spec tires could be part of the overall complaints that many folks have (myself included) about the very unstable ride over rough terrain. I get the new rubber on in about a week and will report back as to the difference or not in ride quality across sideslopes in rough terrain.

Final thought is this, the mil-spec Michelins have a load rating of 4400lbs/tire. The XZLs are 5600lbs/tire for the 335 80/R20s. The Continental MPT81s have a load rating of 6700lbs/tire. Given all the weight that these guys can carry, I like the idea of extra load capacity, particularly since I just got a 2 1/2 ton trailer to go along with mine.

So, that's my 2 cents and I'll report back on the difference that the 335 80/R20 Contis make to overall stability.

Its "Christmas" at my house today. I just got a nicely laminated electrical schematic compliments of General Hood.

Definitely one of those "I wish I had one when I dealt with the rat damage" moments.

A couple of surprises; the STE/ICS-R diagnostic connector and harness remains a mystery. Its not shown on the diagram; for HMMH folks it looks like you are out of luck with HMMH specific systems, they aren't shown but you still end up with 90% more than what you had before; the diagram does not label or possibly show intermediate electrical connectors, these are shown on the troubleshooting pages as "PO Connector "X" (the X is a letter)

It looks like what we got is the what Mercedes supplied to Freightliner and then Freightliner added some circuits, Like Oil Cooler temperature switch, Remote throttle switch, remote loader controls and hydraulic hand tool circuits. The rats seemed to prefer the Mercedes wiring but just realize that this is an incredibly helpful adjunct to the trouble shooting manual but not 100%.

The other thing missing are pin out diagrams for the connectors.

I expect if there is enough interest we could slowly open source the missing items but expect most folks will be happy with what they got.

It fits with my overall philosophy, even if I don't meet those standards everyday at least I have something that reminds me to stay focused. I hope that wasn't too much of a drift.

Can!t wait for my wiring diagram from General Hood to come in! Glad to know it's not 100% complete before I start pulling my hair out. I also went ahead and ordered one of the new starters he has, and I got one of those filter kits coming from EI.

I read that there were only like a dozen trachers made. And I've seen numbers between 300 - 600 on the Mogs with the crane and forks. How many were ordered by the mitary with the front end loader and back hoe? How many more do we think the government has left to auction?

MOG 2 should arrive tomorrow!

I've got to get some new rubber as well, preferably the widest that I can fit while keeping most of my turning radius. I like mud. I do not like riding bulls however, so it's getting toward the top of my to do list.

He will be in Hattiesburg but I will be coming back thru to Hattiesburg from the Rally and then headed north to Memphis. If You and marty make a deal he can leave them at CSMDavis' and ill bring em up to Jackson.
