Late last week, Senator Mike Jacobs intorduced SB-3530, a bill to change the plate fees and requirements for our hobby.
The bill would set plate fees for former military vehicles at $100 for those under 26,000 GVWR, and $150 for those over 26,000.
for trailers the cost is $25 for those under 3,000 pounds and $75 for those over 3,000 pounds.
This would be significant savings instead of running commercial plates.
If you had a 915 and a flatbed, you would pay $3000 a year.
So here is a link to the bill:

Attached is a PDF of the bill as introduced.
We have a meeting with the secretary of state's office about the bill and their CDL people are on board with the concept. We also have the two truckers assn saying their are ok with the bill so with a little luck we can get this passed and make life a little easier in Illinois.
If anyone has any questions please drop me a line.
Before anyone asks to many questions, I choose 26,000 becuase of CDL weights. a standard pick up truck plate runs $99, so I rounded it up to $100.
higher GVWR truck plate go up from there. So the $150 is real significant for us.
Current trailer plates are about $20 for those under 3000# and up to $1500 for those upto 40,000.
So we are at $25 for those under 3,000 and $75 for those over 3,000.
those fees seem pretty reasonable considering you would save a lot of $$$ using your 915 to pull a flat bed to go get your next buy from GL.
