The original style had a multitude of problems so even if you have to temporarily use the above advice to get it going again you should replace it with the new version or delete it.

That devices sole purpose was to disconnect failing/dead batteries when commanded by the LBCD, to save a very expensive alternator, so you could continue with the mission.

A side benefit was having a remote disconnect you could operate with a switch.

A large potential downside, is if the capacitor bank in the LBCD fails, and it commands a disconnect from an alternator at full load, the resultant power spike from the alternator has nothing to absorb it and will be passed along to the electrical system...

if you properly size the batteries to the alternator(larger alt or drop to two batts), it serves no purpose…
