former firetruck m1008 paint

I have a m1008 I purchased from GSA and it was a brushtruck for a rural fire department. My question is do I just hit the red paint with a DA sander and repaint or do I need to do something more?

Guess ill need to pull bed to get the cab back and pull the grill and b/o driving light. those firefighters like their red paint!

That truck will look nice as is in the red color. (though) I did my M45 fire truck in cammo green.
