Fuel sensor on Fuel Filter

What is the purpose of the fuel sensor on the fuel filter housing??

What does it measure and where and how is the information used??

It's used by the STE/ICE test set to measure pump pressure.
Curious, if you know off hand, what would the normal pressures be? I am running the pump on my "Detroit" at 8 PSI at this time, the more the better up to the point it starts causing IP error as the more you can flow and bypass the cooler the IP stays.

On 6.5 Diesel forums, not specific to HMMWV, they say new pumps should provide around 9 PSI.
