Is there a way to tell if you have the little boob in the right spot on the ip....I have paws instead of hands. i'm also not good at standing on my head!!

You are referring to the small tit on the end of the shutoff shaft? If you get it right it should seat immediately when you push it in, and it will only travel between around 7 and 9 o'clock respectively. If the lever will go past horizontal in either direction you don't have it right. Getting that back in is the hardest and most frustrating part of working on the hydraulic head. Only way to be sure is to put it all back together and fire it up. Just be sure to have someone else stationed at the turbo with a block of smooth cut wood in hand and the intake pipe off the turbo so they can block it off and choke the engine down in case of a runaway.

7 and 4 o'clock. When the fuel control is out of the head the collar in the head should move free up and down so it should be in the down position after install of the Head. So now you go to put the fuel control in the Head and the leaver should be close to the 4 o'clock position because the collar is down or shut off position. Hold the control assembly in you hand like it will be installed in the Head and the leaver in the four o'clock position and the pin at the end should be horizontal.
It is a good idea on any new Head install to hold the new Head in your hand and rotate it upside down and back upright to make sure the control collar is moving free and is not sticking like in the up position.

I could not feel any resistance when I put the shaft in. I was not sure if I would feel it when I rotated the shaft. I will pull it out again, push collar down and align it again....I think I have it right but want to make sure. The wide open throttle scares me as I have no soldier B

You might be ok. As I said when the collar is working correct it will be on the bottom. If it is sticking and will not come down just spray some lube on it while the Head is in place. When installing the head we turn it upside down to check and if sticking we lube it till it moves free then install the Head.

Checked boob shaft.. was installed correctly. Why did I pull it out....DUH. Reinstalled it , dropped hairpin, looked for it for over an hour.

Gave up working on it, found hairpin as I was gathering the last of my tools, reinstalled it........Started truck and it runs great

New tires.....New wheel cylinder.....New O-rings, now to change all the fluids

@jeepsinker, I don't want to hijack a thread.


I finally removed the fuel shut-off on my "parked when running six years ago" deuce last week. The shut off was stuck in the 5 oclock position. I can forcefully move the lever back and forth with a controls(pocket) screwdriver with the governor rod connected? Is it supposed to move freely with the governor rod connected or only when its disconnected?

It should move freely, but have some spring pressure on it from the governor rod. It should not try to stick in any position. Spray it down with Kroil.

Having sat that long the hydraulic head button has probably popped off anyway, but you might be lucky. Sometimes they stay.

I have found the rod sticks inside its shaft often. If spraying it and moving back and forth doesn't free it up, it might need taken apart.
