I plan to put 1 1/2" x 3/8" strips of rubber under the specter cans to keep the bolt heads from wearing holes in them.

I use "Herculiner" on the bottom 6 inches of my fuel cans. This has really helped in keeping the bottoms from rusting. It also has the side benefit of keeping the can from rocking in the holder. Nice snug fit.
