There is a drain on the torque convertor. in the 80s I used 10wt motor oil in the transmission of a m211 that what was in it when I bought it and then changed it out for ATF the truck shifted better with ATF the whole time I drove the truck it never had 4 gear . now I use only ATF and change it at about 8000 miles
