GA would not title my 1952 M38 even though I purchased it with a valid OH title. I am a currently serving Soldier that decided to own historic military vehicles not only to preserve history for the public to see, but also for my fellow service members to appreciate our link to those that came before us.

Great work you're doing for all of us Swiss.

Is it a question about the age of the vehicle [historic] or MV's in general in Georgia? Maryland just changed the laws on all our historic tags and made trucks have to be 25 years old. This is mostly due to the abuse of passenger cars and junk trucks being driven everyday and tagged historic. I believe there should be an exemption for Mvs as even fairly new ones represent something special. Good luck.

I used my M813 to haul all the old Vets in the Brooklet Peanut Festival Parade. I also used my M151 to pickup Santa Clause and deliver him to downtown Brooklet for the lighting of the Christmas Tree. Santa was one of my High School Teachers and a past State Commander of the national Guard. He was thrilled when I showed up because the fire truck had a call and the Town called me.

Where is the Wounded Warriors link that used to be on the main page of the site?

I am a Georgia property owner in Columbus, I am also active duty military. I have not done much with my M35A2, and my CUCV besides the occasional parade/veterans event. I did use my truck for a Do it yourself move (DITY) from FT Lewis, Wa to FT Rucker, AL (TDY) to my final destination of FT Bragg, NC. I have a thread for that, but I'm not sure that is the kind of information you need, or is it?

F18HornetM - please check this thread for specific information on what the issues are. There is also a thread by Wisconsin members who just got their Bill passed dealing with this identical issue:

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?110761-Getting-a-BMY-M923A2-titled-in-Georgia

What is being requested on this thread are details that can be brought to this meeting to represent our hobby to get anything 1986 and later titled in GA. If you think you have a 1986 and later unit already titled re-read the above thread - you may find yourself without a registration and title in the near future without this Code of Regulations changed - same as Wisconsin did.

Any response to the above please post the questions on that thread - please keep this thread ONLY to the requested information and or specific links to aide in gathering all this data later (before next week's meeting). Thank you.

Desire and ability to assist in times of disaster if needed - from a former thread:

All

Just wanted to post this note. I live in Queens NY a few miles from Manhattan. Some areas especially Staten Island were devistated. The local people amd others from the area and the country have sent so much to support the peop[le of NY we really appreciate it.

There is a ton of supplies here thanks to all. I was running 3 of my 5 ton M923's during the hurricane helping the police and FD get thru the 5-6 feet of water.

FD and PD trucks were stuck. I cant tell you how many trucks we pulled out with the M923's they are a beast of a truck!

Went thru the water pushed floating cars out of the way and rescued 122 people from the area that was under water and on fire. best thing i did was to buy from GL!

Had the hemtt deliver generators and run thru the rubble over the on land sand bars and was a real sucess.

I never saw such devistation before. As of today they are still finding bodies in the houses.

So for everyone out there....A duece or 5 ton being available can save lives. Beleive me without the 5 tons i had the fd and pd would have had to wait for the water to receed.

Good luck to all and thanks for the thoughts and prayers

Brad

Lest we not forget the request from Officials for having members of SS come with their MV's to support their Memorial Day Ceremonies as well @Conyers @Roswell etc etc etc:

Hello everyone,
I would like to invite everyone to the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony in Rome, Ga. I am a member of the group that plans this parade and I would like to let everyone know about it. We have uniforms for all of the major conflicts from the American Revolution through the Persian Gulf Conflicts. We also have flags from all 50 states. We invite folks to come wear our uniforms and carry the flags in this parade. The parade begins at 3:01 pm on Monday May 30th. The displays begin at 10:00am. We have living histories and displays in a small grass park as well. You can see our past parade pics at http://www.romanlegionltd.com/ (http://www.steelsoldiers.com/www.RomanLegionLtd.com)
I apologize for the short notice, but I only found out about this site over the weekend. We would love to add some more vehicles to our parade for our veterans to ride in. Also, your impressions are welcome, or bring the family and carry a banner or flag and join us in remembering our fallen heroes.
Thank you,
Bill Hancock

NOTE: I can not get the link to work. If you type it in or type it into a search engine it works. You can also just scroll down to the post by 1958 M274. He has included a working link. Thanks guys. I hope to see some of you there.
And remember, everyone is invited to bring the family with them and walk in the parade or watch this unique parade.
Bill H.

At times Families of the fallen requested the Patriot Guard to attend - also getting at times MV's involved not for themselved but to specifically honor the fallen:

Looks like a busy month. In all of these, the family has asked, requested, or invited the PGR. The families wishes for the PGRs roll in the service is always spelled out.

I just noticed this thread. Nice job accumulating stories about uses for the vehicles.

A couple thoughts to add, based on the crap we had to go through here in Wis.

Due to state's reciprocity agreements, people from other U.S. states can legally drive their former military vehicles in Georgia, but you folks who live there, pay the taxes, and vote, cannot??? How is this fair?

If the vehicle came with an SF-97 form from the U.S. govt., then the U.S. govt. intended that the vehicle be titled, licensed, and operated on public highways. If that vehicle already has a U.S. state title, then GA should recognize it. Article IV, Sec. 1 of the U.S. Constitution requires each state to recognize every other U.S. state's records and judicial proceedings. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Faith_and_Credit_Clause This is what keeps the 50 states working harmoniously together, rather than always squabbling over a marriage license or other items.

Fed. regulations require each state to maintain and use an Instant Title Verification Process, so they must immediately determine if a title is legitimate, whenever they get an application with an out-of-state title.

Mid-'80s MILSPEC documents specify that vehicles built to US govt. contracts MUST MEET FMVSS as a design specification, including 5-ton variants and below.

All vehicles built for US govt. are exempted from the FMVSS-Certification Label requirement, even though they were required to meet FMVSS. Cert. Labels did not exist prior to 10/'69, so no earlier vehicles have the labels either.

In Wisconsin, the Dept. of Administration conducts appeals over other regulatory agencies' decision/s (like DOT's). We appealed several cases through this system, and DOT's decisions were overruled. GA may have a similar venue. In WI, you do not need to hire an attorney to do this.

We're on the cusp of passage of a very lenient collector law. If you would like to discuss things in more detail, I'm happy to discuss our efforts here. pm me for my phone #. What happens in one state definitely effects things in other states. We're coming out of this in very fine shape.

Good luck with your work.
