I have been watching several auctions trying to pick up my first M939. I have noticed in several pictures on the GL website that they show a pallet with a white cloth or a drip pan under the front end of the trucks. I have not gotten the opportunity to actually go look at any of the trucks, just watching the prices (go up) to see what they are going for. What is the white cloth or drip pan for? Are they trying to show the front differential is not leaking or is it there for another reason?

A lot of facilities require some form of drip pan to be under all vehicles. There's nothing to read into it.

The drip pans are a requirement for anything that can drip. Drip or not, you'll find the pallet with an absorbent cloth under the oil pan. I've been at GL when the environmental inspectors made their rounds. Apparently there are HUGE fines for any kind of drip in the yard oil on the ground.

I wondered about that also, but you can buy a lot of drip pans for the price of one oil puddle fine from the environmental inspectors. Thanks for clearing that thought up!

Thanks for the replies. That makes sense. I don't know if they change the cloth before the pics or not but I can't say I have ever saw one that had any kind of fluid on it or any of the pans look like they had anything in them. Maybe that is a good thing.
