GMC DH9890A what is it?

I was looking through Barstows ads on mylittlesalesman.com and saw this truck. They have 5 of them listed at Barstow Truck Parts & Equipment Co. Inc. – Yard page provided by MyLittleSalesman.com
I think they are former air force. The fifthwheel is forward of were it would normally be so i think it pulled a missile trailer or a specialty trailer. Does anyone know anything more about them? Thanks.

Looks like an old White from the late 70s

They are GMC's and in the civilian world this shallow cab model was referred to as day cabs, or a "cracker box". The long frames, fifth wheel placement, and axle setup shown in the ad are definite non-civilian. Engines are V-8 Detroits.

Could it be one of the early generation Patriot Missile carriers (-esque)?
Just a thought, I saw a newer truck (Peterbilt I believe) for sale on GSA awhile back. Set up similar, COE, long truck, lot's of axles.

For some reason I seem to recall watching a program that indicated that those trucks were used to haul deactivated ICBMs from their launch sites.

I seem to recall these truck being on here befor. And they were for missisle transport.

I think the Peterbilts replaced the GMC's. Fred Crismons' Modern US Military Vehicles has the Peterbilts on page 45, Fred Crismon's US Military Wheeled Vehicles has the predecessor to the GMC DH9890A on page 201. Does anyone know more about the DH9890A's?
