Good use for old fmtv tire.

I was wondering if there was a good use for the tire tread of a blown out military tire such as a good year MV/T. I figured if the sidewalls were cut off and it was cut and stretched out, you would have a strip about 11 ft long. That could be used as a traction mat, as a tree saver, as a bumper cover, or some other interesting application.

Cut them up to either rap around trees that your winching from to protect them or to rap around stuff you dont want scratched wghen using chains and binders to secure loads your hauling !

so far 5 minutes with a Diablo carbide tipped general-purpose blade and a harbor freight sawzall

It is much easier to do what im talking about with car tires ! You cut the tire like pie !

Another 5 minutes, finished one side. Blade is about toast however. Should have bought the 3 pack! The other side might be easier since it wasn't shredded, and I kept getting hung up on the loose belts!. Water had gotten in there and rusted the bead locker ring.

would take lot of spares.... but thought of cutting out flaps from side wall of tires to make a sidewall protection ring.. if not a CTIS protection ring too. Little weary of holding in heat on sidwalls for highway though...... then again wind may catch and lift them some pulling air by the hot sidewall and cooling it off.

advantage to, if bed is often empty. That is a lot of weight.. in rainy places or snow season... that extra weight over rear axle might help.
