I knew the riskes when I traded for a non running deuce. But I'm mechanically inclined so I wasn't scared. With in the first 15 minutes I found that the #1 injector tip was smashed. So I pulled the valve cover and the intake valve was broke. Pulled the head and sure enough the piston was trashed. So I guess I'm in for an inframe on this beast. But all in all I'm pretty happy cause it only took me 3 hours to get the head off and i have almost no money tied up in this thing. Ill be searching this site tonight and tomorrow for parts and upgrades. but any suggestions would be much appriciated. I'll try and get some pics up later tonight

Working on getting pics up. But I think I need to get to a computer. Smart phones ain't so smart sometimes.

Just wanted to say thanks again for the add. So far I've already hitting some very good info and even talked with a few guys on the phone trying to help me out. Kinda surprised y'all take to newbie this well but I ain't complaining

I traded a rusted up 79 4x4 lifted bronco that wasn't in bad shape but not good either. Only had 3300 in it

Welcome to the site!

Too bad you aren't closer I have several parts engines laying around I would let you use.

Good luck with it and get a copy of the TMs to keep by your bed for late night reading!

I got lucky and found a guy just a few hours from me with some good deals on complete running LDT's. He's gonna get me a list and prices. I'm thinking about having him check to see if he has and LDS's on hand. Is the LDS465-1 or LDS465-1a the preferred engines to have?

Good on you for asking this forum before you jump in hip-deep. If I were to buy a "running takeout" again, I would buy it for a direct swap - meaning, I would not be willing to having to rebuild anything on that engine. As such, I would specifically look for a "TD" marked block (thick deck) that has the new style head gaskets installed (the ones that look as if there are no head gaskets, just a gap. No tabs sticking out). Not concerned about -1 vs -1a. These engines have all been rebuilt at some point anyway. I would be very reluctant to pay "running takeout" prices for something that has an old head gasket and is already oiling....what are you going to do then? Spend $$ on the head gasket job and hope the rest will hold together....or do a $$$ rebuild/refresh on something you paid a "running" price for?

Na! I've hauled bigger on that same truck. Wish I could find the pictures of when we hauled some monster trucks on that same wrecker before we upgraded the bed

Well i finally got my engine installed in my truck. No fire. The guy I bought the engine from said the engine ran great when he pulled it. He pulled it after I called and put a down payment on the engine. It's an LDT465c with an LDS IP. After I got the truck all put back together I primed the fuel system and made sure I had fuel to all the injectors and no more air was coming out of my returns on the injectors. Filters are full. And the truck won't run without either or a gas rag. I pulled the fuel supply lines off of the injectors to make sure I'm getting fuel. I am but it seems very weak. Barely any fuel going to the injectors. I'm searching the stickys rite now and have decided to check the fuel shutoff to make sure it's not hung up. Then next is the HH. But any other suggestions would be great
