Have you visited the CUCV Wiki page and downloaded all the Tech manuals?

The TM 9-2320-289-20 manual has a step by step trouble shooting section that covers a no start situation.

Start with charging your batteries. They must have a full charge and be load tested (no dead cells) before you start troubleshooting.

For a CUCV diesel to run it needs four things:

1 Chanking speed to build enough compression to ignite the fuel - charged batteries, good starter
2. Fuel - fuel in the tank, good delivery to the injection pump
3. Injection pump engergized - pink wire on top of the pump
4. Air - a clean filter with not obstructions (rat nests, leaves, etc)

If one of these items are missing you will have issues.

Start with the batteries, check the fuel, double check the pink wire, and follow the Tech Manuals.

Here is a wiring diagram for the batteries. It is from the TM 9-2320-289-34 manual appendix E-1

The 2 out of the four lights there are labels one says gen 1 lower left and an oil can in the top right. which one is the gen 2 light top left or bottom right?

Bottom right.

Download the TM 9-2320-289-10 Operators manual. It has the layout of all the lights on the dash and tells you which one comes on when.

You can download all the manuals from the Resources tab at the top of check out the CUCV Wiki. It has links to all the CUCV manuals. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showwiki.php?title=wiki:Cucv

Work on getting the truck started first. The GEN2 issue needs to addressed but can wait.

With you being 16 and cutting your teeth on a CUCV, it will take a little time to workout all the issues and learn the CUCV systems.

Get the pubs . Do you know about the pink wire and how to use it to start the vehicle if you are clumsey enough to run it out of fuel ? Read the reading. Yes the New Jersey Army National Guard is fond of repainting vehicles in the field with parts brushes and straw brooms. Why do it right ?

How long did you leave your key on for? If the engine was cold, and you left the key on, you can burn out all your glow plugs.

Given enough time in the ownership of such a fine military vehicular specimen :)roll:), you'll need the tech manuals, so that you can read the following Chapter titles:

'If it's swollen, it;'s probably a Glow Plug'
'Why Have One Bad Generator, When You Can Have Two!'
'What To Do When Starters Don't'
'When Relay Boards Crap Out...'
'Being Happy in the Right Lane at 50MPH!'
'GM Diesels Aren't All They're Cracked Up to Be... (but typically are cracked-up)'
'The Dash Lights Are On, But No One's Home...' and it's sequel
'I Can't See Paradise By the Dashboard Lights?'

and 'You And Your Alternate Transport' - a.k.a., 'These Boots Are Made For Walkin''...
