Hello I am new to join the form, but have read many of the post over the years and finally have my own to start modifying. I always have enjoyed the Bob and I love the LMTV's but you can't just buy those very cheap. So i have came up with a design of my own to try. I wanted 4 doors but a 4 door deuce is so long and i wanted a bigger bed, so Using Hummer H2 doors and windshield, I will make a 4 door version of an LMTV on a bobbed deuce. As of write now it just a design still gathering all the parts to start. like the flat nose school bus i bought for the HYD brakes steering components , 5.9 cummins engine trans, gauges ect... I am also trying to coming up with a design to make it have a retrievable arm with multiple beds like the one from Kelderman (but cost a lot less), Camper, welder, tanker, flat bed and a high side bed for gravel hauling or dirt. Here are some photochop designs

Not bad photoshop there. Looks like something my neighbor does for a living photoshopping pics to make models look 110% better then they really do in real life.
Why waste your time with an H2? Put a Rolls Royce up there. lol

I actually though using a FJ40 cab, but it is way to small inside. the H2 cab is bigger but has one of the same problems the fire wall sticks out to far. So I will make a cab like the h2 so i can have a flat unprotruded nose. and i will be able to extend it just a bit in between the doors to add some more cab room. It should be a lot of fun to do.

Cabovers are a lot noiser and you have the "doghouse" beween the seats where the engine is. That takes up a lot of interior space. You will be squeezed into two small spaces on either side of it like in the HUMVEE or HEMMET.

You are also the first one there in an accident.

There is also the high center of gravity to consider.

I would look at buying a cab ready made from one of the fire engine manufacturers. They make crew cabs that would suit you a lot better than home brewing something. Prob not cheap but you will spend a lot of money trying to reinvent the wheel.

Just my humble opinion for what it is worth.

get on Expedition Portal and read the Mitsubishi Heavy Truck section. Plenty of info on cab overs there including crew cabs. A Fuso FE crew cab is HUGE inside. Yes there is an engine between the seats, but due to cabin configuration (sitting down and in front of the tires) if the engine was not there, you would not have a huge center area. The back seat has plenty of room and could be used for storage, seating, small fridge or a combination of things. The doors are large and open wide. The same goes for an Isuzu NPR crew cab.

The cabin noise issue is easy to fix with spray on products like Lizard Skin Coatings, or something like Sludge or a dynamat type of product. Same goes for tinting the rather large windshield to manage heat and cold. All very simple fixes. Take off cabs in good condition can be had from 2-5k, though they can be difficult to find.

I have looked at the Isuzu, and Mitsubishi. crew cabs. Just can't find on that is not destroyed in the insurance pools and salvage yards. With 5.9 cummins it should be a little smaller and I probably will have a hump but it will be more in the back of the cab than in the front and nothing like that of Humvee or Hemmt. Something the passenger will have to deal with not me lol. (have you notice all the new truck come main as a cock pit inside hard to find them with a bench seat)
Top heavy maybe but i will build it as light as I can. I have started doing some tube designs on the computer. I will end up using 2 inch OD chrome molly for a complete roll cage/ cab frame. I will lso built a custom mega brush/impact guard. I want to make it as safe as I can.
As far as noise it was said before there all sorts of product to use to block and muffle it out.

well back at it again and have finally found a 4dr Crew cab cheap enough and in good condition to get this project started back up, and a Bus with 12v 5.9 cummins and Allison automatic. The Mitsubishi Fuso crew cab will look good!!!. So i have discarded the H2 concept for this.
I did some measurements and kind of did a rough black of what it will look like.

I found an old '98 International flat nose bus doens't have the much desired 1000 it is a model 545. Can't grip though i picked up the whole bus that runs drives , tagged, 78000 miles, for less than a good 5.9core to rebuild!!!

Still think of finding and OD Allison though

Nice project, can't wait to see the progress!

As a side note, there was a cabover HMMWV concept that was tried and marketed, haven't seen any production ones so it probably never got beyond the testing phase. Here's a pic.

Maddawg that is an awesome pic!!! Never seen that before. I actually called Urban gorilla the people that make the Fiberglass variant of the H1, About make a custom cab the conversation ended quick when they started talking $$$$$$. I even was thinking about doing a retro look of the old FC 1778?? jeep the 4 dr version. And then low and behold jeep swunk work came out with the FC concept for MOAB. I really wanted to do it after i saw those pic but it was the cost again the stopped it LOL.

I found a smoking deal on ebay for 3 FC ( they are still Listed) jeep but i would have to convert two to make a crewcab 1778 more workLOL and money!!!

This deal could not I resist!! I will have the 1st LMTV Crew Cab lol!!!
