Has anyone converted to serp belt and kept the 24v dual alts ?

I don't like the V belts. They burn up. I gotta see if I can change the pulleys on my current alts. I have a whole serp belt setup off a 6.5 so I could mount the extra alt somewhere because the ambulances had duals. I would just have to use the isolated one.

I have no experience with the GM products for the government, but was there not a 6.5L replacement for the 6.2L for the humvees? If so I expect they have continued the serpentine system that accommodated a twin alternator 24 volt system.

If not, why not modify the twin alternator system and take the truck to a complete, 100% 24v system, like a Landcruiser or Land Rover? Personally find the idea attractive for its simplicity and elegance. My opinion, your mileage may vary.

Yep, I was looking at it too but the thing is will anything like a winch for ex run off one batt or two ? Like right now I have my winch hooked to only 1 batt so I am not getting the full buffer of both batts. I am not sure if the switch will remedy that.

6.2's and 6.5's in HMMWV's only have a single 24v alternator.

A straight 24v system in a CUCV isn't a good idea. Since most of teh truck is still 12v it only draws from one battery. You can't properly charge them with one 24v alternator without resorting to battery isolaters and such.

The 6.5 NA engine in HMMWV's can be V belt or serpentine belt depending on the model HMMWV it is in.

Civilian 6.2's from ~89 up, were setup with serpentine belt system, and were obviously 12volt... this might be a source for hybrid parts -

Normally, you would be correct. 2 batteries in series on a 24v truck do not require all that, or independant alternators. 2 batteries parrallel in a 12v truck do not.

But a CUCV isn't 12v, and it isn't 24v.

The CUCV is unique. Only the starter and glow plugs are 24v. Everything else is 12v, and draws only from the front battery. Thus you have a much heavier drain on the front battery than the rear. If you try charging both with one 24v alternator, you will end up killing your batteries because they will never be at the same state of charge, but the alternator sees them as one battery and charges according to what it sees. So either one battery will be undercharged or one will be overcharging all the time.

As a result, you either need 12v alternators feeding each battery, as the GM engineers did, or a setup with 24v and isolators or DUVACs- like they did with the M1010.

But if you try and feed a CUCV, with its hybrid 12v/24v system, with just a 24V alternator your batteries will have a very, very short life.

Your easiest way to do it is do a 12v conversion as part of your swap.

Anybody know where to get a serp waterpump pulley from a Humvee ? I want to try and retro fit a hyd fan clutch to a civvy truck.
