My 90° elbow hose finally arrived - it's a Gates 28466 which starts out at about 4" x 6". I trimmed off about 2" per end and it went on like a glove 😁

I cranked it up and idled it for awhile until the filter got warm. Only two leaks to tighten and everything is running good! I'll be running it like this for the next several outings and then I'll change the filter, remove the two pipe plugs and hook up the heater hoses.

Would it be feasible to have a pump do a recirculation? Wondering if I could get a pump from an autowrecker.

Are you talking about a fuel pump or water pump? I'm afraid I don't have any good answers to your fuel pump questions other than mine's doing fine without an AFC.

This is a thread about an unusual heater core install and you'll get better answers to your questions if you start a thread specifically about them.

Today I plumbed in the heater hoses over to the heater core. My Stauff clamps are probably stuck on a cargo ship offshore so I had to use zip-ties as a temporary fill in. Once the hose clamps arrive I'll mount it all up proper and trim the long hose down to match.

Success! I just warmed up the engine, opened the valves, purged the air out of the heater core and now I have hot air in the cab with no fluid leaks!
Man, thats a good feeling and a long time in the making.

*One thing I found is that with the front half of the air canister removed there is not enough of a ground for the blower motor to work. When put back together everything works as it should.

OK, one of the last items for this heater project is getting the permanent hose clamp made and mounted under the radiator support. I made it out of 2 pieces of 3/4" aluminum square stock and drilled 1" holes between the 2 halves. The top half has thru holes and the bottom half has 1/4" N.C. tapped holes. Seems no one carries 1.75" long button heads so the socket heads will work for now.

The edges got chamfered so they won't dig into the rubber hoses.

Having a heater makes all the difference. It rained on my parade the other night, but the heater kept the cab nice and cozy!

Went through the Appalachians with a 5 ton this winter in freezing and snowing weather. The heat went in the cabin when going uphill with the engine heating up, sometimes even kicking on the fan. It was a relief when it did lol. In my deuce the heater is anemic or nonworking. Found that when the solar pannel is connected to the battery while the truck is running, there is an electric oscillation that heats up the solar panel. I had the solar panel on my back seat or on my lap with a blanket while going through the Ozarks in winter. Kept it bearable, barely.
