Hello from a new member. Does anyone know the max payload for a M923 A2 ?

Hello all. I just signed myself up after a few long nights of reading on here. I sure wish I'd have known about this site long ago. Good stuff.
Anyhow. I am a farmer and trucker and have just bought a 91 M923
I'm no stranger to semi tractors , tractors and heavy machinery. But I have to say driving this thing around I feel like a little kid again. Just plain fun.
I plan on removing the bed and mounting a gravity box in its place for hauling corn off the field to home. Under 10 miles one way. Not on highway really just on farm roads.
Looking at the specs I'm not sure just how big of box I could use. I would really like to use a 500 bushel box. It would be roughly 25 to 30,000# payload. Not off road twisting or abusing it. Just use it on fields I cant get a semi into.
Am I expecting to much out of it? Most normal road tandems gross around 50,000# loaded. That would be about what I would be at with the M923.
Thanks in advance I've never been around these trucks and don't know what to expect.
I'm also curious if anyone has mounted a engine driven hyd pump. I have a gleaner combine with the same 8.3 cummins. The pump is driven off the accessory drive. I want to mount a township snowplow on the front with hyd angle. Anyone put a snowplow on one of these?

If you look at the placards inside the truck where the glove box should be ALL the information on the truck loading capacities is listed there! If I remember correctly the 923 has a MVGW of 51,000 lbs now you figure the truck weighs around 24,000 lbs that pretty much tell you all you need to know. Read the placards on the dash there is a whole lot of info there!

Mil specs are very conservative when it comes to vehicles. I don't think you will have any trouble with your plans, the distance is short and you're only loaded one way, piece of cake. In fact, you'll be one of the few getting excellent traction from actually having a load on the truck.

Regarding the plow, it sounds like a great idea. There is a wrecker and dump truck version of the M939 series so I would guess adding a pump would not be impossible to achieve. I would warn you that I have heard the transmissions will not tolerate being shifted into an opposing direction gear while the vehicle is moving at all. You must come to a complete stop, then change the gear.

Thanks. I think I'm missing one of them. I forget, but I think it said something like 10,000# payload off road. 20,000# highway. The other info sounded like combination gross weight. That's max with a trailer. I couldn't find anything specific on max for just the truck.
Going off Wisconsin road law I should be good for 34,000# on the tandem and with the 14/20 tires at least 12,000# possibly up to 20,000# depending on what the front axle is rated for. Wisconsin gives us 15% overweight in the fall as long as the truck is rated for it. On paper it should work just fine. I was wondering in real life how much is to much. Keep in mind this will be driven by experienced guys used to this. Could I gross 50-60,000 without destroying it?

Do believe your looking at 44k rears in the 939 series. If you wanted 55k and a 60 k GVW then the M920 917 916 truck would have been a better pick. You going to be pushing the safety factor.

Welcome to SS , this thread has details on a belt driven hydraulic pump and snow plow mounting .
Plow truck progress

Since the trucks sit high to start with, a M927 ( long wheelbase model of the 939 series )
would be a better choice for a 500 bushel bed .

Thank you. 44,000# rears you say. I know they look a lot like the top loaders I use top run in an 7 axle Mack strait truck. That truck would have about 60,000# plus on the tandems when the pushers/tag was lifted.
Any truck loaded we can handle. Just don't want to destroy it. I know a normal sq100 tandem that is in most 80's road trucks which is rated for 40,000 will live forever at 50+ as long if it's not abused. If it's 44 on the tandem and 10 plus on the steer it should be just fine.

Mine came without a pto pump. A local hyd fabricator told me the pto powered version could only be used in neutral? If that's the case I was going to put a hyd pump direct off the accessory drive for live power.
